Entry one- March 14, 2007

1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
Our largest project was to research and make a labyrinth for the school.

2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
Research means to look up and learn about a topic online or from a book.

3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
One of my research successes was with the labyrinth. It was a success because it is still there, helping the people at school to relax and meditate.

Teacher Response March 15
I am so happy that you enjoyed the labyrinth project. Your grade is 10/10. Mrs. D

Entry two

1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:

I think it did help because it was all layed out and in order which helps do research faster and in a more organised fashion.

Entry 3
1. Topic:
Lucy and her relatives

2. Why you chose it:
I chose this topic because it has been the deepest and most interesting topic we have done, all year.

3. What you already know about your topic:
Lucy was one of the first humans to walk upright. She was only a few feet tall (3-4') and scientists dont know very much about her at all.

Teacher Response March 16
Your grade is 20/20.

Entry 4 - Pre-Notetaking Activity

1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.

Skinny- Who are the scientists that initialy discovered the theory of Lucy, and how did they discover her?
Fat- What was their lifestyle?
Skinny- When did she and her relatives live?
Skinny- What ereas did Lucy and her relatives live in?
Skinny- Did this species have families?
Fat- If so, how did they function?
Fat- How did Lucy survive and live?

Entry 5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking

1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
This sheet helped me by showing me what I knew and didn't know about Lucy and her relatives and it also, in relation to the webbing process, helped organize all of my information. I found it easy to create a fat question because my topic is so vast and not much is known about it.

Teacher Response March 20 - Which question is your fat question? Please see me. 19/20.

Entry 6 - Search Log

1. What have I learned today?
I have learned that the search engines given to us have really helped and made researching easier.

2. What problems have I had?
Luckely, I have not had any problems so far with my I-search

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will keep doing what I am every day.

4. What will I do next?
My next goal is going to be, getting full and correct answers to my fat and skinney questions.

Teacher response March 21 - Great! 10/10.

7 - Search Log

1. What have I learned today?
I have learned who first dscovered lucy and also how long ago she lived.

2. What problems have I had?
When putting my info. into noodlebib, I didn't make indavidual notecards. I had to correct this and also put URLs for these things.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I put what I had into single notecards and sorted everyting out with the proper URLs.

4. What will I do next?
I will finish researching for my skinny questions and keep everything sorted and organised.

Teacher Reaponse March 22 - That type of error is common with a new system of note taking. I am glad you could get it sorted out. 10/10.

Entry 8 - Search Log

1. What have I learned today?
I have learned that, in doing searches like these its easy to get disorganized.

2. What problems have I had?
In the book that I used, all of the info. on Lucy is spread out into a 300 page book. I could not find the details that I needed.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will answer a skinny question instead of a fat question using my book source.

4. What will I do next?
I will finish answering my questions with the book source.
